TERMS: 'Grain' is the smooth finished hair side; 'Suede' is the' fuzzy' inside of the hide. Leather Weight: The tanning industry categorizes leather by weight. 1-1 1/2 oz. leather is thin (baby clothes, booties, lace); 2-2 1/2 oz. is good for most clothing, lace; 3-3 1/2 oz. is good for heavy jackets, possibly moccasins; 4 oz. and up for moccasins, mukluks. Suggested usages are all generalizations, many craftspeople will have their own ideas as to best uses. |
